The life of the second saddest princess in the royal house, after Lady D, played in the TV series The Crown by a convincing Helena Bonham Carter

Many have discovered her story thanks to the series &quot;The Crown&quot; , but Margaret , the sister of Queen Elizabeth has been at the center of worldly news for years because of her dangerous relationships and her risky life choices.

A free and rebellious spirit , an excessive and passionate woman . Perhaps &quot;a born queen&quot; as her sister Elizabeth defines her. Princess Margaret of England (who in the first two seasons of &quot;The Crown&quot; is played by the beautiful Vanessa Kirby ) lives in constant pursuit of attention , claiming her place at the center of the scene, in one way or another.

A private life that has very little private life : the Princess drives S tampa crazy from a very young age, when at the age of 23 she decides to marry Peter Townsend . A former squire to King George VI and later the Queen Mother&#39;s auditor, Townsend is 16 years older than Margaret , a divorce and two children behind. It is the beginning of a conflict between the two sisters that has continued over the years and that will lead Margaret to make choices that are not in keeping with her title in order not to live in the shadows and show her stubbornness.

The Princess is a fragile character hidden and protected by an invincible woman&#39;s breastplate. Margaret, seeing herself unable to marry the man of her life, swears that she will not grant herself to anyone else: a promise that is short-lived and that is broken as soon as it is discovered that Townsend is about to marry a 19-year-old young man known in Brussels. A race against time begins to safeguard her dignity : Margaret hastens her marriage to Anthony Armstrong Jones , a photographer with a complicated past , who lives a life on the edge in a perennial challenge of every convention . The couple will not live a happy love, however, as we see from the 3rd season of The Crown , in which Helena Bonham Carte r plays a no longer young Margaret, disappointed by life and her role , who does nothing but drink and smoke (it is said that the Princess smoked more than 60 cigarettes a day ) to try to escape from the prison in which she feels locked up.

Husband and wife are now at the center of the stage and on all the front pages of the newspapers for their extra - marital relationships : since 1966 Margaret has been dating her daughter&#39;s godfather Anthony Barton, the nephew of former British Prime Minister Robin Douglas- Home, musician Mick Jagger , actor Peter Seller , Australian cricketer Keith Miller, to name a few. When the story with her husband has come to an end, Margaret meets Roddy Llewellyn, a young man who is seventeen years younger than i. The two are photographed together with Moustique , the only tropical one owned by the Royal Family, the place of the heart of the Princess. Then comes the divorce and with it the social scandal : the Princess takes refuge in alcohol and drugs, her faithful companions in all the darkest moments of her existence.

Margaret&#39;s third age is characterized by the removal of a substantial part of a lung , several strokes and domestic accidents caused by substance abuse : noteworthy is the severe burn to her feet from a too hot bath that limited her mobility . The Princess spends her last years in a wheelchair , until death overcomes her in 2002, two months before that of her 100-year-old mother who commented: &quot;It is a compassionate release&quot;. In the show of The Crown his character is just one of the many victims of the rules of the royal house, where everyone lives according to the queen, with catastrophic results as in the case of the marriage of Charles and Diana, or that of Princess Anne. That&#39;s why it doesn&#39;t surprise us that Harry and Meghan ran away to the other side of the world and outside the walls of the royal palace.
