Victoria De Angelis and Partiboi69 spent the summer igniting DJ sets across Europe, including a standout performance at the Audioriver Festival in Poland. Their next show is set for London on 27th September. The two DJs share their stories with L'OFFICIEL in a b2b interview.

Victoria De Angelis, the bassist of M&aring;neskin, has just released the provocative new single "GET UP BITCH! Shake Ya Ass" with Brazilian singer Anitta, which has quickly climbed to the top of the charts. This solo venture runs parallel to her work with the band, allowing her to explore new creative and expressive avenues. She's also delving into new musical styles, such as the techno and house sounds of her DJ sets, some of which have been performed alongside the charismatic, unpredictable, and at times controversial Australian DJ Partiboi69. The duo is set to perform again in London on the 27th of September at the Outernet. We sat down with them for a conversation designed for b2b.
L'OFFICIEL ITALIA: How did your journey into music begin? PARTIBOI69<span style="background-color: transparent; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant-ligatures: inherit; font-variant-caps: inherit; font-weight: inherit; letter-spacing: 0px;">: I grew up in a musical family with a rich tradition that spans many generations. You could say I had no choice but to pursue music. From an early age, my father would have me perform with him at public events in our small rural town in Australia. I was around 10 or 11 years old. <span style="background-color: transparent; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant-ligatures: inherit; font-variant-caps: inherit; font-weight: inherit; letter-spacing: 0px;">VICTORIA DE ANGELIS<span style="background-color: transparent; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant-ligatures: inherit; font-variant-caps: inherit; font-weight: inherit; letter-spacing: 0px;">: I&rsquo;ve loved music ever since I was a child. I started playing the electric guitar when I was 8 years old, and it opened up a whole new world to me. I spent all my time listening to old records, which led me to discover the punk movement and rock 'n' roll. These genres have profoundly shaped who I am today.
LOI: When did the two of you first meet? PB<span style="background-color: transparent; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant-ligatures: inherit; font-variant-caps: inherit; font-weight: inherit; letter-spacing: 0px;">: At a Thai restaurant in Leeds before our first show together. The food wasn&rsquo;t great, but the company more than made up for it. Then we performed, and Victoria was incredible! I believe it was her first proper DJ gig, and she handled it like an absolute pro. VDA<span style="background-color: transparent; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant-ligatures: inherit; font-variant-caps: inherit; font-weight: inherit; letter-spacing: 0px;">: Partiboi was kind and supportive, which made the whole experience so much fun. He gave me loads of great tips! The next day, we recorded our Stingzone set and ended up going bowling, and he completely amazed me!
LOI: What's the craziest thing you've ever done? PB<span style="background-color: transparent; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant-ligatures: inherit; font-variant-caps: inherit; font-weight: inherit; letter-spacing: 0px;">: I once interviewed porn star Ron Jeremy while wearing a strap-on dildo on my head. VDA<span style="background-color: transparent; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant-ligatures: inherit; font-variant-caps: inherit; font-weight: inherit; letter-spacing: 0px;">: The craziest thing I&rsquo;ve ever done is probably getting "MISS BITCH" tattooed on my hand. It was a very impulsive decision. I saw the design in a friend&rsquo;s sketchbook, instantly fell in love with it, and five minutes later, they were tattooing it on my hand.

PARTIBOI69: How have the fans responded to your new DJ venture? VICTORIA DE ANGELIS: My fans have been incredibly supportive, attending numerous shows and showing me an immense amount of love. I'm truly grateful and pleased that they&rsquo;re enjoying this new side of me as well. It has been great fun to be able to go to clubs and party with them! I've been DJing for a couple of years now, and it&rsquo;s been an absolute blast. Initially, I would throw parties with friends as an excuse to play. I always wanted to take it more seriously and get involved in the club scene, but I was constantly on tour with the band, so I could only DJ at afterparties. Once our tour ended, I finally had some time off and decided to fully immerse myself in it.
PB: What were the highlights of your international solo tour? VDA: There were so many memorable moments! My favourite show was probably in Berlin because the energy in the clubs there is truly unique; it&rsquo;s deeply embedded in their culture, and you can really feel it. Everyone was dancing non-stop all night, without any phones in sight&mdash;just screaming, having fun, sweating, and jumping together. It was a truly magical experience.
PB: How does your approach to performing differ between playing bass with M&aring;neskin and DJing? VDA: DJing is vastly different from playing bass with M&aring;neskin. When we tour as a band, we typically perform the same setlist every night, so it becomes second nature, and you play almost instinctively. As a DJ, however, you have to improvise your set each night and adjust it according to the mood of the venue, the DJ who played before you, and the crowd's reaction. The band is a collaborative environment, with shared support and motivation. As a DJ, you're on your own, so everything rests on your shoulders.
PB: You're gaining recognition as a DJ; do you have plans to start releasing your own tracks? Are there any more B2B sets in the works? VDA: Music composition is a significant part of my life, so yes, I definitely plan on releasing my own tracks as a DJ. Regarding B2B sets, I absolutely love playing them. I find it incredibly fun and inspiring to blend your sound with someone else&rsquo;s. When the energy between two DJs is strong, it really elevates the entire set.
PB: Congratulations on being the face of the new Armani campaign! Style and fashion are clearly important to you. What are some of your current favourite trends? VDA: Thank you! I&rsquo;m really into the 90s and 2000s revival at the moment. I'm obsessed with pointy boots, animal prints, low-waisted trousers, mini skirts, faux fur, tribal tattoos, oversized sunglasses&hellip; the list goes on.
PB: Will you join me in London at the Outernet in September? Do you enjoy the city? VDA: I love London! I've spent a lot of time there, and for me, it&rsquo;s one of the best cities in the world for both electronic and rock music. My favourite club is probably FOLD; I've attended some incredible parties there!

Victoria De Angelis: Who are your favorite DJs/producers? And who inspired you the most in developing your sound and your artistic identity? Partiboi69: At the moment, some producers and DJs that I love are: Clouds, XCoast, Marco Bailey, Ignition Technician, Juicy Romance, Raredub, Chlär, Misstress Barbara, XClub, MCRT, Mainline Magic Orchestra, KiNK, LB aka LABAT, Sally C... Initially I looked a lot at GhettoTech and Chicago House and Ghetto house for production inspiration. I liked that their productions were raw, dirty, crunchy sounding and that they fit my style at the time. I also loved the ridiculous and mischievous lyrical content of artists like DJ Deeon, DJ Assault and Paul Johnson. VCA: For those who don&#39;t know yet, what can we expect from your DJ sets? PB: It depends on the show. Sometimes I rip my pants off and play with just one G string, sometimes in live performances, I have a friend who plays guitar on techno and I play keyboards and trumpet, for a completely different show. Generally, they are quite fun! And there is never too much debauchery. VCA: What are your favorite clubs you’ve played in? And what are the things that make a party a good party for you? PB: Otel&#39; and Arsenal XXII in Kiev. The energy at both shows was amazing and the clubs were really cool. Kiev is a fantastic city. I really hope to be back soon! Then there&#39;s Panorama Bar. There are so many top notch clubs, they attract crowds that are open to being taken on a journey by the DJs that play. For me that&#39;s the number one factor that determines a great party. VCA: Before you started DJing and playing electronic music, you were also playing in a band... Tell me more, what differences did you find and how did you end up focusing more on electronics? PB: I played in a band for years in Australia before I started DJing. I was one of those hardcore guys who thought DJs weren&#39;t real musicians and that dance music was stupid... Look at me now. I was a session trumpet player for years in Melbourne, touring with bands around Australia and running my own entertainment company for weddings and corporate events. I&#39;d say it&#39;s a big departure from my current musical journey. DJing is great, but playing in a band, with friends, allows you to create a special synergy and atmosphere. I got into electronic music when I met Jarred, my manager and good friend. VCA: You recently released your new song &quot;Double Drop&quot;. How does your writing and production process work for your songs? PB: I&#39;m really excited about how the music video turned out. It was a ridiculous concept, but I think we did it! My process changes from song to song. Sometimes I start with a vocal hook and build the song around that. For Double Drop went like this. For the whole image part, however, we always try to push ourselves further, find unique and never seen ideas.
