In 1973, Wallace Chan embarked on his career as a gemstone carver at the age of 16. Half a century on, the Hong-Kong based, self-trained artist has become a master jewellery maker and sculptor, whose works have garnered international acclaims and acquisitions by private collectors and major museums, including Long Museum in Shanghai, Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and British Museum in London. Often compared to alchemists in medieval Europe and philosophers in ancient China, Wallace Chan is obsessed with the journey of making discoveries, and is constantly looking for ever-bigger canvases and new materials for his creations.
